Today: Science Club

Art Club sign ups will be today at lunch.  Club starts today too!

Starting today Mr. Reilly's 6th grade classes are going to raise money to buy a lot of canned goods. During your lunch time bring in some extra money to buy some delicious baked goods, enter a raffle, buy some sweet candy, or try your luck with the guessing game, All the money raised goes to your local food bank. Thank you!

The new Makerspace project is the K'Nex Catapult Challenge. Come to the media center during your rec time and start designing! See Mrs. Beckstrom for further information.

Just a reminder that Bowling Club starts tomorrow - Wednesday, January 16. We will meet right after school in Room 112 (Mrs. Schofield-Carter) to take attendance before boarding the buses.  Please remember to have your ride pick you up at 4:30 from Roseland Lanes. Any questions see Mrs. Richards or Mrs. Groth in the office. 

Math Club will meet on Wednesday (not Thursday), January 16 after school. Anyone interested in participating in the MATHCOUNTS tournament on Saturday February 2 must attend one of the two sessions (first session was this morning) to complete the school tournament problems. Photography Club will meet on Thursday, January 17, after school downstairs in Mrs. Matousek's room. Be ready to share your pictures from winter break. You can post them in the classroom or email them to Mrs Cooke.

Attention all Ski and Snowboarding Club members. Recently you received the rules and procedures for the club. Please make sure that you have the correct make-up day of Monday, February 11 NOT Monday, February 18 on the form. The permission slip must be signed a returned to Dr. S by Wednesday, January 16 in order to join us on Friday. See Dr. S if you have any questions.

The next Harmon Quiz Bowl practice will be on Friday, January 18 in Mrs. Sunderhaft's room after school until 3:45. There is an opportunity to attend a Middle School Quiz Bowl tournament on Saturday, February 23. Permission slips and details will be shared at the next meeting.

Attention wrestling fans,  over the weekend, the first year wrestlers performed very well at a first year wrestlers event at Chardon Middle School. All combined, the 10 Harmon wresters who participated went 22-17 in individual matches. Pinning were Mikah Snitzer, Logan Thomas, Tommy Ploskunak, Bryce Gibson, Devon Bodine, Jacob Cici, Andrew Eichenauer & Carl Bartlett. Mason Smolen and Jaden Keba also wrestled well. Mikah Snitzer and Carl Bartlett were undefeated on the day. Thanks to our veterans who came along to help coach: Connor Tschudy, Isaac Lee, Jackson Swanner & Marcus and Armen Perez.  

The Aurora Raptors are looking for 6th and 7th grade girls interested in playing travel softball this season. We are hosting open gyms the next 2 Fridays; January 18 & 26, from 6-8pm at the Aurora High School auxiliary gym. If you are interested, either contact us at: auroraraptorssb@gmail.com for a registration form, or simply stop by and check us out. If you attend, please bring your mit and a pair of dry tennis shoes to wear.

Beta Club will be selling donuts 4th and 5th periods. Donuts are one for a $1 or two for $1.50. They will be sold in the commons.

Ski Club will start next Friday, January 18. Our make-up day for the missed session this week will be Monday, February 11 due to school not being in session on that Friday, February 15. Students, however, will be able to use their ski club pass on Friday, February 15 and any Friday after that for the remainder of the season but NO TRANSPORTATION will be provided. See Dr. Sobolewski if you have any questions.

Last night the 7th grade girls basketball team took their first loss of the season in a battle against Hudson. Cassidy Trem led the Greenmen with 10 points and Sam Stask hit for 8. The 7th grade girls now are 8-1. The 8th grade girls had an amazing victory over Hudson 28-24.  Bailey Hemming led the Greenmen with 11 points and Grace Barbour added 10 points.  It was a great team effort by all the girls!!  Come support the girls on Tuesday, January 15 as we host Stow at 4:00.

Attention wrestling fans: The team had a very good day yesterday. It began by dominating the competition at Orange which included Kenston and Newbury as well. While team score wasn't kept, the team went and won 24 individual matches- losing only 10. Pinning were Mikah Snitzer, Mason Smolen, Marcus Perez, Armen Perez, Isaac Lee, Devon Bodine, Connor Tschudy, Jacob Cici, Andrew Eichenauer, Jackson Swanner, Mate Orgovan Carl Bartlett & Ben Iammarino. Winning were Logan Thomas & Quinn Gorman. Tommy Ploskunak, Bryce Gibson & Jaedon Keba wrestled well, and Joey Arnold did a nice job assistant coaching. Saturday the team is taking all of its first year wrestlers to a tournament at Chardon.

Today is the Student of the Week, Athlete of the Week & Musician of Week luncheon. If you were notified, please report to the band room at the being of your lunch period. 

Jerry Goldsmith will be the featured composer for Classical Friday in the media center - Star Trek and Alien here we come, thanks to Mr. Keckan!

Last night the 7th grade girls basketball team defeated Nordonia 41-13. Leading the team were Sam Stask and Kara Courtad with 10 points each. The 8th grade girls team lost to Nordonia. Grace Barbour and Carmen Courtad both led the Greenmen with 6 points.

We would like to recognize all Aurora youth players no matter what youth program they are currently playing on. Youth players will be introduced individually, either before or during one of the intermissions, we will announce their name, current team, Jersey number & position. We are excited to recognize the youth players and look forward to them potentially becoming future players of the AHS Greenmen hockey team. Please find our “Sign-up Genius” link on the Aurora city school web page www.aurora-schools.org. The following students have been recognized by the VFW as winners of  the Patriot's Pen Competition: Bridgid Boyle, Reece Emrick, Logan Oden & Phobe Yao. Huge shout out to these students. Their essays have advanced to the next round of the competition. Good luck! 

Last night the 7th grade girls defeated Twinsburg 50-21. Leading the Greenmen was Sam Stask with 13 points, Kara Courtad added 12 points and Cassidy Trem added 10 points. The 8th grade girls lost a tough battle to Twinsburg 49-41. Leading the team was Grace Barbour with 9 points, Carmen Courtad with 8 points and Bailey McGee with 6 points. Come out and support the teams as they play Tallmadge Thursday, December 20 at 4:00.

Last night the swim club traveled to Old Trail for their last meet of the season. Both girls and boys teams were victorious while swimmers continued to break school records. Congratulations to Annabelle Zamary, Ava McGovern, Ollie Salgado, Kasey Walter, Maggie McVicker & Amanda Chmielewski on their new records.

You are only allowed in a teacher classroom if the teacher is in the classroom and they have given you permission. Again you are not to be walking in the hallways or in an unsupervised classroom during your lunch and rec time. Your lunch is to be eaten in the cafeteria unless a teacher has directed you otherwise.

Congratulations to 7th grader Connor Wilson who finished in 2nd Place in the Stock Market Fall Challenge at the Elementary/Middle School District Level. Connor will receive a $100 cash prize. If you see Connor, be sure to congratulate him. 

Congratulations to the wrestling team on their amazing team performance Saturday when they won the 12 team Perry Super Duals. The team opened its impressive run by defeating Jefferson 76-3. A 56-27 victory over Lakeside followed. The next matches were closer and more exciting. Harmon edged Berkshire 54-42 and then host Perry 51-39 to win its pool. In the Championship match the team downed Edgewoood 52-39. Check out the trophy in the main office. Pinning were Mikah Snitzer, Mason Smolen, Tommy Ploskunak, Marcus Perez, Armen Perez Connor Tschudy, Jacob Cici, Mate Orgovan, Carl Bartlett, Jaedon Keba, Quinn Gorman, Joey Arnold, Logan Thomas, Bryce Gibson & Devon Bodine. Winning  were Andrew Eichenauer and Isaac Lee. Going 5-0 on the day were Isaac Lee, Mate Orgovan, Carl Bartlett, Jaedon Keba, Quinn Gorman & Joey Arnold. As of now, the team's record stands at 9 and 4 heading into Winter Break. The team will just have practices between now and the New Year when competition resumes on Wednesday, January 9.

Harmon students had a great showing at the First Lego League Akron District Tournament this weekend. Three of our teams were invited and three teams move on to State competition in February! The Dynamic Developers competed in the First Lego League District competition at the University of Akron on Saturday. The team members are Kavya Shah, Audrey Peters, Jack Berendt and Frank Berendt from Harmon. They won the Robot Engineering award.  SPARX is also going on to state competition after a great performance on Saturday. Team members include Deepti Panguluri, Medha Kishore, Teddy Liu, Arjun Lokesh, Leo Bruecklmeier, Raul Gamez, and Reece Trujillo. And Neon Thinkers is going back for their third trip to State competition also winning an award for best presentation! Congrats to Clara Bultrowicz, Ariel Fabec, Manisha Girn, Hansika Suru, and Madyson Wise.
