SUPERINTENDENT ALLCALL ~ Tuesday, October 9, 2018 Red Circle with All Call Word in Black

Hello Aurora Families, this is Pat Ciccantelli, Superintendent of the Aurora City Schools.  There are instances that occur that cause us to have a heightened level of concern and we experienced one of those today.

As part of our commitment to openly share important information with our school parents, I am calling to share that the Aurora Police informed us this morning that there was an incident within our community which caused us to take some additional safety measures.  There was no direct threat against the school, our students or staff.

The concern has been resolved and we have returned to normal operations.  We appreciate the communication and support we have with our local law enforcement leaders and our school resource officer, Michelle Ice.  Thank you.

AURORA COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT SAFETY LETTER

AURORA CITY SCHOOLS CLOSED ~ Friday, January 12, 2018 School Closed in green on chalkboard

The Superintendent of the Aurora City School District has determined that the deteriorating weather conditions forecasted for early this afternoon will make it too hazardous to proceed with school/classes safely today, Friday, January 12, 2018.  Therefore, all of the Aurora City School buildings will be closed today.  Any after school activities that normally would have taken place are also cancelled for January 12, 2018.

Stay tuned to your local news outlets for further weather condition updates.

Winter Weather Update - Thursday, January 11, 2018 Winter Weather Update with snowflake

A fairly large winter storm is scheduled to arrive tomorrow afternoon.  Due to the fact the storm is scheduled to begin to impact us in the early afternoon, it is possible we may have to cancel school on Friday, January 12, 2018.  We are scheduled to have ice beginning around 1:00 p.m. and we would need to dismiss from the high school by 11:00 a.m. to finish the run to begin the elementary run by 12:00 p.m. so all bus routes could be finished by 1:00 p.m. An early dismissal is not a good option for elementary students as many parents will not have someone home for their children. I will make a final decision in the morning.

Because the conditions are expected to deteriorate in the late afternoon into the evening, all activities/contests are cancelled for Friday and Saturday.

NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 15, 2018 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day MLK Day Banner Red, White and Blue

A MESSAGE FROM PAT CICCANTELLI, SUPERINTENDENT OF THE AURORA CITY SCHOOLS School's Open Green

“I wanted to share with everyone that power has been restored to all of our buildings and school will be open on Wednesday, November 8th

There are still some road closures within our district.  If you live in a residence that is not accessible for street traffic, please have your student meet the bus at the nearest cross street that is accessible.  If you do not have reasonable bus access, or if you are still without power and don’t feel you will be able to get your child to school, please call the attendance line so we know your child will be absent and they will be excused from school due to these circumstances.

We appreciate your patience as this has been a difficult situation for many of our residents and our safety forces.  Thank you and have a good evening.”

AURORA CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT RECEIVED THREATENING SOCIAL MEDIA POST

The Aurora City Schools learned this evening that a student in the district made a threatening social media post online.  The student was picked up and questioned by the Aurora Police.  Their investigation found that the threat was not a credible threat and proved to be more of an error in judgment.  There was a weapon pictured on the post, which proved not to be an actual weapon, but was an Airsoft gun.  The police determined that the student did not have access to any real weapons.  There is also no evidence to suggest that any other individuals are involved in this incident.  We will, however, have an increased police presence throughout the district tomorrow, including our School Resource Officers, Michelle Ice and Chris Reiter, just as an extra precaution.  The student will not be on the school campus tomorrow.  The student will be dealt with accordingly by the authorities in the police department, as well as, by school officials.

As always, the safety of our students is the Aurora Schools’ first priority.  In this situation, a community member brought this information to the attention of the Aurora Police Department.  This sharing of information helped us effectively address this situation this evening.  We would like to remind all community members to please report any such information, whether you believe it to be credible or not, to either the police department or school officials immediately.  We also ask parents to monitor your child’s social media presence and speak with them regarding the appropriate use.  We greatly appreciate your help in keeping our schools and our community safe.

AURORA SCHOOLS’ WEBSITE DNS PROVIDER SERVICE TO CHANGE

The DNS provider for our website and other communication services has been having unusual difficulty lately causing the recent problems we've been experiencing with access to the Aurora City Schools website.

Due to these issues, we will be transitioning to a different DNS host over spring break. This transition will cause temporary disruptions in being able to access the Aurora City Schools website. These disruptions are likely to last anywhere between 1 - 4 days and will impact our website the week of March 21st- March 25th, 2016.

Once we are fully transitioned to our new DNS provider, we anticipate having full access to the District website without the level of disruption that we have been recently experiencing.
