Class Description:

Aurora High School has 2 orchestras as part of the regular school day.

The Philharmonic Orchestra is a 64 piece auditioned string orchestra consisting mostly of Juniors and Seniors.  They participate in the OMEA STATE Orchestra and have earned a "Superior" Rating in Class B for the past three years.  This year the group is moving up to the most difficult classification - Class A.  Members of the band join the orchestra during the December concert to form a 80 + piece full orchestra.

The Concert Orchestra is a 43 piece string orchestra consisting mostly of Freshman and Sophomores.  They participated in the OMEA STATE Orchestra Event last year and earned a "Superior" Rating in Class C.  This year the group is moving up to Class B.

The AHS Rock Orchestra is an after school club that meets 1-2 times per week. Students perform on 2-3 concerts as well as for community events such as the Aurora Relay for Life.  Students perform on electric violins, as well as traditional rock instruments and learn to improvise and play off of rock charts.

Saturday, Sept. 27th - City Fall Festival Performance, 3:00 PM at Sunny Lake Park (Casual concert dress - Orchestra Polos)

Tuesday, October 21st - Joint Concert with Twinsburg HS, 7:00 PM at Twinsburg HS (Formal concert dress)

Wednesday, December 14 - AHS Orchestra Concert, 7:00 PM at AHS Auditorium (Formal dress) Select band members will join to form a "Full Orchestra"

Saturday, Feb. 21st - Steak N Strings Benefit Dinner, 6-8 PM at AHS.  Rock orchestra will perform

Friday, Feb. 27th - AHS Orchestras perform at OMEA STATE Orchesta Competition at Hudson HS.  Time TBD (Formal dress)

Tuesday, April 28th - AHS Orchestra Spring Concert and Awards Ceremony, 7:00 PM at AHS Auditorium (Formal dress)

Saturday, May 30th - Select AHS Orchestra students to perform for AHS Graduation Ceremony, 4:00 PM at Kent State MAC Arena (students wear shirt and ties, but will not wear school uniforms)

  • Seating Auditions begin Monday, Sept. 8th

    Seating auditions will take place during class.  This is also a major summative for the grading period.  Please see the attachment for specific audition requirements.
