AHS STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN BEACHWOOD ARTS COUNCIL’S 21ST ANNUAL JURRIED REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ART SHOW

Four AHS Advanced Placement Art students will be participating in the Beachwood Arts Council’s 21st Annual Juried Regional High School Student Art Show.  The students are Lily Farr, Samantha Miller, Claire Sharpnack and Henry Young.  Their teachers are Sean Berrodin and Brian Caponi.  The students will be honored at the Art Show Opening Reception and Awards Program on Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Beachwood Community Center located at 25225 Fairmount Blvd., Beachwood, 44122.  The award ceremony begins at 3:00 p.m. The artwork by students from 22 area high schools will be judged and 8 top awards will be announced with winners receiving cash prizes.

COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES ~ February 11, 2016

The AHS Guidance Department and Special Education Department, along with college faculty, will provide families with information about the high school to college transition for students with disabilities on February 11, 2016 in the AHS auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m. 

Some of the topics covered include, college readiness, IDEA vs. ADA (504 plans), legal differences between high schools and colleges, and accommodations at the college level.   Registration is suggested for this event and will be posted on the AHS webpage prior to the presentation date.


AURORA ORCHESTRA ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL STEAK N’ STRINGS BENEFIT DINNER, CONCERT AND RAFFLE ~ February 27, 2016

Join the Aurora Orchestra Association on February 27, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Aurora High School Varsity Gymnasium for a delicious Outback Steak House dinner served at your table.  The Macedonia Outback Steak House will provide and cook your meal which will include their 9 oz. steak with sides, drinks and cheesecake.  A kid’s meal choice and vegetarian selection will also be available.  Entertainment will be provided by the AHS orchestras with music from Pirates of the Caribbean and Aladdin.  Presale tickets are required with an order deadline of February 13th.  No tickets will be sold at the door.  Dinner ticket proceeds go toward AOA student travel.

Raffle items will also be available to win, including tickets to concerts, golf outings, vacation packages and much more.  Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for raffle viewing and the raffle proceeds will benefit the AOA general fund.

The AHS After Prom Committee is holding a fundraiser at the CHIPOTLE restaurant located in Streetsboro at 9754 State Rt. 14.  They will donate 50% of their sales on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 4:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. to the AHS After Prom Committee.   Just present the flyer attached to the link below at check out.

AURORA PTO SPAGHETTI DINNER ~ March 4, 2016

The Annual Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Aurora High School from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Dinners include spaghetti (meatless sauce or meatballs, beverages and dessert.  Tickets are available at all Aurora School Buildings, the Board of Education Office and from members of the PTO.  The flyer below provides additional information about the dinner.

AMERICANISM & GOVERNMENT TEST WINNER ~ IAN DOEMLING

Congratulations to AHS Junior Ian Doemling who was recently awarded a certificate as one of 6 winners of the 14th District of the American Legion Americanism and Government testing program for the 2015-16 school year.  The winners represent the top 1% of those 850 exams that were given in Summit and Portage counties.  Doemling was sponsored by American Legion Post/Unit 802 in Aurora.


AHS SCHOLASTIC ART & WRITING AWARDS 2016 RECIPIENTS

Congratulations to Sean Berrodin and Brian Caponi and their students as the AHS Art Department had yet another outstanding showing at the2016 Northeast Central Ohio Scholastic Art Competition.  Seven AHS art students earned Gold Key pin and certificate recognition while eleven AHS students earned 19 Silver Keys for their work.  There were also 17 AHS students who received 40 Honorable Mention certificates.

An exhibition featuring all silver key, gold key and portfolios will be on display from January 19 - February 3, 2016 in the Kent State University Stark Campus Fine Arts Building and in the Campus Center (next to the Fine Arts Building) with the hours of M-TH 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Gold and Silver Key winners will attend an awards ceremony at the KSU Stark Campus in the Professional Education and Conference Center on January 30, 2016.  Seniors will be recognized at 10:00 a.m. and grades 7-11 at 12:00 p.m. All students, parents and school staff members are invited to attend.

AURORA CITY SCHOOLS' TWO-HOUR DELAY PROCEDURES

In accordance with the Aurora City School District’s Procedures for Emergency School Closing, the use of a delayed school opening may be utilized in the event of inclement weather.

Under the two-hour delay, the school day will be modified; however, the school day will end at the usual time.  To view the high school and middle school building’s delayed start class schedules, please click on the links below.
