TRICK OR TREATING FOR CANNED GOODS

In accordance with annual tradition, National Honor’s Society will once again be trick or treating for nonperishable food items during Aurora’s newly designated Halloween time frame: this Saturday, November 1, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

However, this year they are also teaming up with Key Club and Student Council members to make the initiative as expansive and successful as possible. The club members ask that alongside your Halloween candy, you make ready any nonperishable food items you wish to donate. The goods collected will be donated to the Aurora Food Panty to help local families struggling with hunger in this upcoming holiday season. Members involved have each been assigned to individual neighborhoods and will identify themselves with their affiliated organization upon collection. Many thanks in advance for your aid in this fight to stop local hunger! The Aurora Food Pantry greatly appreciates our support!


“TRICK OR TREAT” 2014 DATE CHANGED BY THE CITY OF AURORA

The City of Aurora has moved the date for trick or treating from Friday, October 31, 2014 to Saturday, November 1, 2014.  The time will be from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  Although trick or treating has traditionally been held in Aurora on October 31, this year’s Halloween coincides with the Aurora Schools' varsity football game at Kenston.  Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin said in her press release that, “Since both events are important to the Aurora public, I think we need to be flexible to accommodate both.”   For more information, please contact Tracy Humbert at the City of Aurora ~ 330-995-9126.


MILLER SCHOOL INTEGRATED PRESCHOOL COMMUNITY PEER APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR

The Miller Elementary School Integrated Preschool Community Peer Application and Selection Process will be taking place for the 2015-16 school year.   Applications will be available October 1-31, 2014 in the Miller School office and at the link below.  Please return the application to the Miller School Secretary on or before October 31, 2014.

ELEMENTARY PTO HAS LIMITED SUPPLY OF SPIRIT WEAR STILL AVAILABLE

AHS MARCHING BAND CONCERT DATE CHANGED TO NOVEMBER 9, 2014

The AHS Marching Band Concert performance date has been changed from November 2 to November 9, 2014.  It begins at 2:00 p.m. and will take place at Aurora High School.  Don’t miss our fantastic marching band at their only indoor performance of the school year.


LEIGHTON LEAPING STARS TO PERFORM AT CLEVELAND CAVALIERS GAME ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2014

Congratulations to the Leighton Leaping Stars Jump Rope Team who will have the opportunity to perform at halftime during the November 24, 2014 Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game.


CAR RAFFLE DRAWING TO BE HELD ON JANUARY 10, 2015

The car raffle drawing for the 2014-15 Chevy Impala sponsored by Tim Lally Chevrolet/The Chevy Network will be held on January 10, 2015 at the Boys’ Basketball Game.

Tickets for the drawing are $10.00 each and are available from student sports team, Band, and Orchestra members, the AHS Main Office and the Athletic Department.  Please make checks payable to Aurora Ultimate Boosters.  All proceeds will benefit the student organizations at our schools.

In response to recent Ebola Virus concerns nationwide, we have attached a link below from the Portage County Board of Health that gives detailed information regarding the transmission, signs and symptoms, risk of exposure, treatment, and prevention of the virus.

AURORA SCHOOL DISTRICT QUALITY PROFILE RELEASED

The Aurora City School District has released a comprehensive “Quality Profile” companion document to the Ohio Department of Education’s School District Report Card.  This “Quality Profile” features measures that help define what a quality public education looks like for our community which are not included in the State Report Card.  This was done in conjunction with area school districts and is supported by the Alliance for High Quality Education, an education consortium that works to improve educational opportunities for students and to speak for member districts on matters of educational policy and funding.

The content of this Quality Profile examines in greater depth those qualities that our community deems important for a high quality public education based on our Strategic Planning Committee recommendations and recent Community Survey. The profile content includes six categories:  Academics, Arts, Student Leadership and Activities, Fiscal Stewardship, Parent and Community Involvement and Student Services.  This document allows us to highlight these programs and reflect their community importance.

As the Quality Profile is being released statewide for the first time by a consortium of districts, it is our intention to continually update the document in order to keep residents informed and knowledgeable about our district’s educational priorities.  It will be added under “Quick Links” on our district homepage and can be found here.
