RIPCHO STUDIOS NOW THE OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER FOR AHS YEARBOOK

Aurora High School recently announced that Ripcho Studios will be the "official" photographer for the yearbook. Parents of upcoming Seniors are under no obligation to purchase a Senior picture package from Ripcho Studios; however, the only way for the student to appear in the yearbook is to have their picture taken through Ripcho Studios.

Ripcho Studios will offer a "yearbook only" option. If a student wants a yearbook only picture, it will be free.  Ripcho Studio will photograph approximately three head and shoulder images of the student for the yearbook.  Ripcho Studio will select the best image for the yearbook and send the selected image to the school with the other images.

For a YEARBOOK ONLY picture sitting the parents should call Ripcho Studios and ask for "THE FREE YEARBOOK ONLY SITTING" to reserve their time.  A family will NOT be charged for this option.

If a parent requests a yearbook only and wants to select the image themselves, it is a $25.00 sitting fee. Ripcho Studio will photograph approximately 8 images and put said images on line for the parent to inspect. If the parent wishes to purchase a portrait package at that time, their $25.00 sitting fee turns into a deposit and goes towards whatever they purchase.

Ripcho will bring their studio to AHS between the dates of July 8th-10th. A makeup day it is scheduled for Monday, August 12th for those students unable to attend the first sessions.

PINWHEEL DISPLAY AT AURORA POLICE DEPARTMENT PART OF APRIL CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH

The month of April is recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month across the country. The Children’s Advocacy Center of Portage County uses its Pinwheels for Prevention project as one of its activities to improve community response to child abuse and neglect.  This year the Harmon School BETA Club is supporting the pinwheel awareness campaign.

The spinning pinwheels have been “planted” and are being displayed on the front lawn of the Aurora Police Department from April 18-25, 2013 for the 7th year in a row. They are intended to be a visual reminder to residents about the number of children affected by child abuse and neglect. The pinwheels are used to represent the caring individuals who break the silence surrounding child abuse and report suspicions of child abuse or neglect.  This year the Harmon School BETA club is supporting the pinwheel awareness campaign.

To report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect, please call the 24-Hour Child Abuse Hotline (CARES) at 330-296-2273. For more information or to volunteer, please contact The Children’s Advocacy Center of Portage County at 330-297-8837.

THE HARMON SCHOOL MUSICAL ~ February 8, 2013, 7:00 p.m.

The Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood
and The Ever After ~ A Musical will be this year’s Harmon Musical performed on February 7 – 8, 2013 in the Aurora High School Auditorium.
The Real Story of Little Red Riding Hood gives a rare chance to hear the story from the Wolf’s point of view. This hilarious musical proves there are two sides to every story.
The Ever After ~ A Musical is a parody on daytime television that tries to see if time really does heal all wounds. Cinderella and her stepsisters, along with Snow White and the Evil Queen, are reacquainted in this funny fractured fairy tale.
Please join us for an evening of laughs with curtain time both evenings at 7:00 p.m.

AURORA HIGH SCHOOL'S NEW WRITING CENTER NOW OPEN ~ “Write More, Worry Less”

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the new Aurora High School Writing Center now open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during 4th, 5th, and 6th periods from 10:20 a.m. - 12:40 p.m.

Aurora High School is partnering with Kent State University’s Education Department to provide writing tutorial services at the new AHS Writing Center.  Six KSU junior English majors who are also pursuing secondary teaching certificates are providing the tutoring three days a week at AHS.  Students with writing projects from any academic discipline are encouraged to visit the writing center during their lunch/study periods to take advantage of the learning opportunity with the goal of producing better writers, not just better writing.  Students are welcome to seek help at the writing center on their own or as recommended by their teachers.

The tutors don’t grade, proofread, edit, or write papers for students, but help students find useful resources, brainstorm and understand assignments, and develop a focus and supporting details for their projects.  They also help AHS students organize ideas, proofread, and learn to understand grammar and punctuation.  The program’s motto is "Write more, worry less."

The writing center serves the entire AHS student population by working with writers on lab reports, history term papers, resumes, English writing projects, biology papers, and any other writing projects with which students are involved with.  The center utilizes a one-on-one setting.

Please click on the link below for a flyer with more information.
