Aurora City School District Special Services
The Office of Special Services is committed to providing comprehensive supports to meet the diverse academic, social-emotional, behavioral, physical, and health-related needs of all students. Through a full continuum of services, the department ensures equitable access to educational opportunities for students who require specialized instruction, related services, accommodations, or additional supports in order to make meaningful educational progress.
The department oversees programming and compliance in the areas of special education, related services, gifted education, English language learner services, Section 504 accommodations, preschool programming, mental health and behavioral supports, nursing services, and homeless services. In collaboration with district staff, families, and community partners, Special Services is dedicated to delivering high-quality, individualized support for every student in accordance with federal and state regulations.
All services provided through Special Services are aligned with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Ohio Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities, and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Services Coordinated by the Office of Special Services include:
- Special Education Services: Comprehensive identification, evaluation, and programming for students with disabilities ages 3-21 under the 13 IDEA disability categories:
